If you want to talk to a detective, a dragon and your favourite anime protagonist in the same afternoon, Character.AI's catalogue is unmatched and Swipey is not trying to compete with it. If you want one companion with a designed look and a relationship that deepens (Memory cards, ten levels, reward drops, calls that end in a memory summary), Swipey is built for exactly that and Character.AI is not. Depth on Swipey starts with the builder. You pick realistic or anime, then body type, hair, eyes, skin tone and outfit, then a personality mix (flirty, dominant, shy, intellectual, nurturing or any combination) and a voice. Since August 2026 the same flow includes kink, location and scenario steps, and Edit My AI lets you change any of it later. On top sit 100+ roleplay scenarios with persistent plot memory, and action text wrapped in asterisks is highlighted in chat so roleplay reads like a script. The whole thing takes under two minutes to set up.

The filter question

Most searches for "Character.AI alternatives" are about filters. Character.AI is SFW by design. Swipey AI is purpose-built for adults ("No content filters, no topic restrictions, no watered-down responses") with a baseline moderation floor for illegal content and strict 18+ enforcement, including full age verification in some regions. Character.AI is text-first. Swipey generates character-locked images in chat, lets you edit them inline with a pencil prompt, animates photos, and produces on-demand video scenes up to 60 seconds in realistic or anime style. Character.AI has group chats and a creator community. Swipey has Group Chat (two or three characters, including your custom AI, in one thread, shipped 27 August 2026) and, since 23 September 2026, a Creator Community where Premium members publish a Custom AI for everyone, plus a full game layer of hearts, daily and permanent quests, a 7-day streak, a daily spin and ten relationship levels with reward drops. It also has Live Fantasy Duels, where viewers gift hearts to steer two AI girls through a five-minute battle and the top supporter is taken into a private live. Since 24 September several duels run at once in Duel Rooms you pick from a live room list. Nothing on Character.AI is equivalent.

Hearts tie the game layer together. You earn them by finishing daily and permanent quests (following Swipey's official social accounts counts), keeping the 7-day streak alive, taking the daily spin, levelling up relationships and hitting milestones. Premium members also receive hearts automatically every day. You spend them on extra image and video generations, Fanclub content sets from Verified Creator Models, custom requests from real creators and gifts inside Duels. Character.AI has no equivalent currency because it has no equivalent economy: it is a chat product, and a very good one, rather than a game you return to.

Access is a smaller point but worth a line. Both work in a browser. Swipey has no app-store app at all; it runs on iOS, Android, tablet and desktop in the browser, with an Install App banner for a home-screen shortcut, and you sign in with email, Google or a passwordless magic link.
